<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for producing pancreatic islet cells from embryonic stem cells. <P>SOLUTION: Differentiation is initiated towards endoderm cells, and focused using reagents that promote emergence of pancreatic islet precursors and mature insulin-secreting cells.
