<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate film having excellent dimensional stability and transparency, capable of reducing rainbow-like unevenness even at a wide viewing angle, and suitable for a polarizer protective film. <P>SOLUTION: The biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate film comprises polyethylene terephthalate including ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid as structural components. The film has a haze of 7.0% or less, a thermal shrinkage rate of 4.0% or less at 150°C, a retardation of 1800 nm or less, variation in the retardation of 400 nm/m or less in a film width direction, and a plane orientation coefficient ΔP of the film of 0.1655 to 0.175, and the film is used for a polarizer protective film.
