PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of the data needed when calculating the rotation angle of the outputting axis of a motor by data retrieval on the basis of the output signal of a resolver. SOLUTION: In the rotation angle detection device, the prescribed angle range setting process is performed: corresponding to each state that the absolute value of the tanθcapable of keeping the desirable resolution to the rotor angleθis <1 or the absolute value of the cotθis <1, in the range of 360°of the rotor angleθ, 8 ranges of the first to the eighth range sequentially set in the order of every angle range of 45°, the tanθor the cotθis set as the parameter TAN (S01). In the map retrieval process, the tan(ANG) of angle ANG being 0°≤ANG≤45°is made the absolute value ¾TAN¾ for parameter TAN for searching, the prescribed map representing the corresponding relation between the angle ANG and absolute value ¾TAN¾, the map search corresponding to the absolute value ¾TAN¾ is performed and the angle ANG is calculated (S06).
