PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve cycle life characteristics in a lithium ion secondary battery using a negative electrode containing a graphite carbon material.

SOLUTION: An negative electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery includes: a negative electrode collector; and a negative electrode mixture layer arranged on the negative electrode collector and containing crystalline carbon and amorphous carbon as a negative electrode active material. In the negative electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery, the negative electrode mixture layer comprises a plurality of layers, the negative electrode mixture layer closer to the negative electrode collector has a higher content of the crystalline carbon, the negative electrode mixture layer farther from the negative electrode collector has a higher content of the amorphous carbon, and a content of the crystalline carbon at the layer closest to the negative electrode collector is higher than that of the amorphous carbon.
