<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation support device and an operation support method for much more appropriately performing area setting. <P>SOLUTION: An operation support device 1 is provided with: an area setting part 53; an other vehicle determination part 54; and an information providing device 60. When it is determined that a self-vehicle turns right by a right/left turn determination part 52, the area setting part 53 sets an other vehicle determination area for determining the presence/absence of another vehicle ahead the self-vehicle along a road shape ahead the location of the self-vehicle, and when it is determined that the self-vehicle turns left by the right/left turn determination part 52, the area setting part 53 sets the other vehicle determination area along the road shape behind the location of the self-vehicle. The other vehicle determination part 54 determines whether or not another vehicle is present in the other vehicle determination area set by the area setting part 53 based on the information of the other vehicle received by a communication equipment 10.
