<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology that is capable of calculating a hash value promptly even in the case where a storage capacity of a RAM is relatively small. <P>SOLUTION: A multifunction machine calculates a digest value using JPEG data showing a scan object, and generates a PDF file in a USB memory 8 using the JPEG data and the digest value. The multifunction machine writes each data 114a-114e that constitutes the JPEG data of a first page in both the RAM 26 and the USB memory 8 in the case where an idle capacity in the RAM 26 does not run short, and writes each data 114a-114e only in the USB memory 8 in the case where the idle capacity in the RAM 26 runs short. Subsequently, the multifunction machine 10 changes height information included in a JPEG header 114a.
