<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide negative-electrode active material, a manufacturing method for the same, and a negative electrode and a lithium battery that adopt the negative-electrode active material. <P>SOLUTION: A negative-electrode active material has a core containing molybdenum-based material and a coating layer formed on at least a part of the surface of the core. The coating layer contains molybdenum nitrogen oxide and/or molybdenum nitride.
