<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact probe having a shorter overall length compared with a conventional contact probe having a same length of movable strokes of a first plunger and a second plunger and a same length of an overlap margin between the first plunger and the second plunger, and a socket provided with the same. <P>SOLUTION: In a compressed state where a coil spring 6 is compressed, a planer portion of a trailing end 11 of a first plunger 4 faces and contacts with a planer portion of a trailing end 21 of a second plunger 5, an area on a leading end-side body 23 within a predetermined distance from a base end thereof, and a planer portion of a flange 22.
