The method involves maintaining an input clutch in an intermediate sliding situation for a predetermined period after immobilization of a vehicle by support of a driver on a brake pedal, so as to transmit a level of torque (Cemb) sufficient to allow crawling movement of the vehicle if the driver releases the brake pedal without additional torque request before the end of the period. The clutch is completely opened at the end of the period. The clutch torque is quickly reduced to a calibrated value according to a constant slope ramp during immobilization of the vehicle.
