The device has individual weft thread guides arranged such that multiple weft threads (6a-6d) are supplied by the weft thread guides to front and rear needle beds. Multiple stitch thread guides supply respective individual stitch threads (7a, 7b) for the needle beds. The stitch thread guides produce two separate base structures (10a, 10b). The stitch thread guides are placed behind the respective weft threads associated with the needle beds, and behind respective warp thread groups (4a-4d) based on a selection of the stitch thread guides at the front or rear needle bed. An independent claim is also included for a flat knitting method for manufacturing a multi-layer, multi-axial reinforced, three-dimensional spacing structure.
