ROTARY CUTTING TOOL HAVING SEALED MARGINS AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME

A rotary cutting tool (10) includes a generally cylindrical body having a first end (12), a second end (14) and a longitudinal axis therebetween (16). A mounting portion (18) is disposed about the first end (12), a head portion (20) having an outer diameter (D) is disposed about the second end (14), and a body relief portion (22) having an outer diameter (d) less than the head portion (20) is disposed therebetween. The head portion (20) is structured to engage and cut a workpiece. A number of flutes (24) extend from the second end (14) of the cylindrical body along the head portion (20) and along at least a portion of the body relief portion (22). The head portion (20) includes a number of margin relief surfaces (30), each disposed between adjacent flutes (24) and inset a distance (t) from the outer diameter (D) of the head portion (20) and extending from the second end (14) of the cylindrical body and terminating at a margin seal (32) within the head portion (20).
