PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image quality from being degraded at a band boundary when local image processing is performed on each band area obtained by dividing image data. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus divides image data so that each band area has an area that overlaps an adjacent band area, scans pixels in a short side direction of the band area to decide a pixel of interest, and carries out local image processing with reference to the neighboring pixel. At this time, the image processing is carried out in a processing range in the short side direction in the band area for each color that is set to be different among at least 2 colors, for each color constituting the image data. The number of pixels in the short side direction of the band area is decided so that the overlap area of the band area includes a boundary in the processed range for all colors to divide the image data.
