PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pinch roll device capable of detecting the thickness of media. SOLUTION: This pinch roll device 20 includes a platen for supporting the media, a plurality of pinch rollers 21 arranged in a position opposed to the platen by sandwiching the media and juxtaposed in the main scanning direction Y, a driving device 24 for moving the pinch rollers 21 in the direction for approaching the platen, a moving distance detecting device for detecting a moving distance of the pinch rollers 21, a sensor for detecting contact of the pinch rollers 21, a control device, and a thickness detecting device. The control device performs first operation for driving the driving device 24 without arranging the media on the platen and second operation for driving the driving device 24 by arranging the media on the platen. The thickness detecting device detects a thickness of the media from the moving distance when the pinch rollers 21 contact with the platen in the first operation and the moving distance when the pinch rollers 21 contact with the media in the second operation.
