<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance front brightness while suppressing the increase in power consumption of an edge light type backlight unit, in a liquid crystal display device including the backlight unit. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel, a light guide plate disposed on the rear side of the liquid crystal display panel, a light source disposed at an end part of the light guide plate, and a prism sheet disposed between the liquid crystal display panel and the light guide plate. The prism sheet has a plurality of prisms and a base. With respect to each prism, surfaces other than a first surface facing the base comprise a first region having a reflecting layer and a second region not having a reflecting layer, and the first region is located nearer to a light source than the second region and is formed into a stepwise surface having surfaces approximately parallel with the first surface, and the second region serves as a surface which changes the traveling direction of light emitted from the light guide plate and made incident on the first surface, to a desired direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
