Disclosed is a process for producing an aqueous dispersion, comprising neutralizing an ethylene-(meth)acrylic acid copolymer (A) containing 8 mass% or more of a constituent unit derived from (meth)acrylic acid with an alkanol amine (B) in an aqueous medium to cause the dispersion of the copolymer (A) in the aqueous medium. The alkanol amine (B) is preferably represented by general formula (1). [In general formula (1), R1 to R3 independently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or an aliphatic saturated hydrocarbon group having one hydroxy group, wherein at least one of R1 to R3 represents an aliphatic saturated hydrocarbon group having one hydroxy group.]
