A method for assessing the match of the maturity of the fetal and newborn immune system to the gestation term provides for the assessment of the maturity of cell-mediated and humoral immunity. When the maturity of the organs of cell-mediated immunity matches to that of humoral immunity, the fetal and newborn immune system is considered as corresponding to the gestation term.
