The automaton (1) has software selecting units for selecting software between a reader function in which a bus (7) connects the automaton directly to a biometric reader (19) and a slave automaton function in which another bus (9) connects the automaton to a slave automaton (22). Hardware selecting units select hardware between electric circuits, where each electric circuit corresponds to different communication protocols, and a library controls readers in which the automaton draws appropriate control for a specific reader. The reader is a hardware device for identifying users.
