PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quantitatively inspect the existence or nonexistence of abnormality caused in a steel cord including a joint of the steel cord embedded inside a moving handrail. SOLUTION: This moving handrail inspection device includes: a detecting body 5 for limiting an image so as to detect three sets of joints slantingly arranged to the extension direction of the steel cord embedded inside the moving handrail 2; a recognizing means for recognizing the joint when a variationΔP of respective light quantities falls within a predetermined range and respective time intervalsΔt fall within a predetermined range when an image processor 8 continuously detects the abnormality, and not recognizing the joint at least when the variationΔP of the respective light quantities is outside the predetermined range or when the time intervalsΔt are outside the predetermined range; and an abnormality determining means for determining that there is no abnormality in the joint when the recognizing means recognizes the joint and determining that there is the abnormality in the joint when the recognizing means does not recognize the joint.
