PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printed matter, which is equal to the printed matter of a copy source, in a short time without deteriorating image quality. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a writing part 26 for correspondingly writing, into a recording part 32, input print data or image data based on the print data, and a first characteristic value, which is based on the print data, having capacitance smaller than that of the image data based on the print data; a printing part 36 for printing an image based on the image data on a medium; a reading part 34 for reading from the medium, on which the image has been printed, image data of the image; a generating part 28 for generating, from the read image data, a second characteristic value which indicates characteristics of the image data and has capacitance smaller than that of the image data; and a determining part 30 for determining whether a first characteristic value entirely or partially coincident with the second characteristic value is recorded in the recording part. If the first characteristic value entirely or partially coincident with the second characteristic value is recorded in the recording part, the printing part prints, on the medium, an image based on image data corresponding to the first characteristic value.
