PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar light source which can obtain entirely uniform white light by utilizing a white LED, and to provide an LCD backlight unit including the same.

SOLUTION: The planar light source 100 includes a plurality of white LEDs 110 arrayed by separating at a predetermined interval. The plurality of white LEDs 110 are arrayed so that center light intensity of an LED unit formed by combining the one white LED 110 with an optional white LED 110 arranged at a shortest distance from the above LED 110, is 80-120% of an average value of total light intensity emitted from the respective white LEDs 110. The LCD backlight unit includes the planar light source 100 utilizing the white LEDs 110.
