An indexing device comprises a housing 2, a work table 1 rotatable in bearings 4 of the housing, a shaft 6 driven by a motor 7 through a worm 23, and a clutch 27, 28, a drive pin 16 on shaft 6 for engagement with a Geneva wheel 14 seoured to table 1, a releasable plunger 8 for engagement with bushes 9 in the table at the indexed positions, and means for retracting plunger 8 during indexing. A cam surface 17a carried by shaft 6 engages a follower 19 carried by plunger 8, and retracts the plunger against a spring 11 to allow indexing. The axial position of member 28 is controlled by a pivoted lever 35 actuated from outside the housing by a spring loaded push button 36, and for automatic operation the push button is connected to an electromagnetic, pneumatic, or mechanical means associated with the machine tool being used. To ensure that shaft 6 is brought quickly to rest and held during indexing, a spring loaded plunger 42 engages a recess 44 formed in a boss 45 of shaft 6. Lubricant is supplied by a pump 7, the plunger 48 of which is coupled to plunger 8 through a member 49 so that the plunger 48 is actuated during reciprocatory movement of plunger 8. |
