PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a color separation profile taking the shape of a color gamut of an image forming apparatus into consideration. SOLUTION: By using an initial color separation profile and the colorimetry result of a color chip formed by the image forming apparatus by a signal value for which the range of an output value is sampled, an output color to be formed by the image forming apparatus is predicted (S703) for the input value of the lattice point of the color space of image signals. An evaluation value, for which a gradation property between the output color predicted for the input value of the attention lattice point of the color space of the image signal and the output color predicted for the input value of the lattice point adjacent to the attention lattice point is evaluated, is calculated (S704). Until the evaluation value becomes smaller than a predetermined threshold (S705), the input value of the attention lattice point is changed (S706), and the prediction of the output color by the changed input value and the calculation of the evaluation value are repeated. When the input value of the attention lattice point for turning the evaluation value smaller than the predetermined threshold is obtained, the output value of the attention lattice point is updated by the output value corresponding to the calculated input value using the initial color separation profile (S707).
