<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium that has superior surface brightness, damage-resistance and color properties while maintaining superior ink absorbency of an ink receiving layer. <P>SOLUTION: The recording medium includes: the ink receiving layer with alumina hydrate and a binder on a substrate. A surface of the ink receiving layer is covered with a partial coating formed by multiple coatings containing a cationic polyurethane. The plurality of coatings have an average major diameter of 0.03 μm or more and less than 1.00 μm.
