PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it may be difficult to select an appropriate subject because it is impossible to arbitrarily combine and set the direction in which an operating means, which is used to operate the focusing area of an imaging apparatus provided with an automatically focusing function, is operated and the direction in which the focusing area is moved. SOLUTION: The operating device includes: the operating means for operating the focusing area where a focusing state is detected; and a setting means for arbitrarily combining and setting the direction in which the operating means is operated and the direction in which the focusing area is moved.
