MULTI-LEVEL INVERTER SWITCH FAULT DETECTION APPARATUS AND METHOD

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for diagnosing the malfunction of a multi-level switch in a multi-level inverter are provided to distinguish the malfunction of specific switches regardless of the time difference of malfunction in the switches. CONSTITUTION: A storing part(31) stores characteristic vector extracting algorithm extracting characteristic vector from current waveform in case of the occurrence of malfunction in switches. The characteristic vector extracting algorithm verifies the malfunction of specific switches according to the state of multi-level switches. A controller(33) forms a code book related to characteristic vectors for short-circuit states in switches according to the characteristic vector extracting algorithm, and the code book is stored in the storing part. The code book functions as a reference for verifying the occurrence of malfunction in the switches.
