PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion generating unit that includes a function for generating ion stably for a long time without increasing a space required for the installation of the image forming apparatus, and to provide an image forming apparatus equipped with the same. SOLUTION: An ion generating unit 40 includes a duct 64, an ion generating device 70, a mounting plate 62, and a fan 70. The duct 64 includes a suction port and an exhaust port in a first end and a second end respectively. The ion generating device 70 is disposed in the duct 64. The mounting plate 62 functions for mounting the duct 64 in the housing 2. The mounting plate 62 has an open hole 63 communicating with the duct 64 and is to be mounted on the housing 2.
