A practice cartridge comprises a metal cartridge case 1 and a hollow plastics insert 4 of uniform wall - thickness throughout which forms a lining for the whole or part of the inner longitudinal surface of the case and projects therefrom in the form of an ogival portion 8. According to the invention, zones at the fore part of portion 8 are instantaneously carbonized when the cartridge is fired so that no large particles are expelled. In the embodiment shown, the insert 4 terminates at a level 5, and after firing falls back within the case to the dotted line position 4<SP>1</SP>. In further embodiments the insert extends to the base of the case, but leaves free any vent-holes situated thereat (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). |
