The damping device comprises a controllable fluid coupling (1) with an input side (2) and an output side (3). The input side and output side are actively connected to each other, where the viscosity of the fluid between the input side and output side is changed. The fluid is a magnetorheological fluid or an electrorheological fluid. Portions of the fluid are located in a magnetic field, where the magnetic flux of the magnetic field is controllable. An independent claim is also included for a dual mass flywheel.
