PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope apparatus capable of acquiring a bright and clear polarized image. SOLUTION: A rotation filter 13 of a light source device 3 is arranged in such a way that either an inner circumferential filter or an outer circumferential filter is switched in an optical path when selecting normal-or narrow-band, and non-polarized or polarized observation mode. Illuminating light passed through a light guide 7 of the endoscope 2 and polarized through a polarizing plate 22 or the like is allowed to irradiate from a distal end of the light guide on a subject. After returned light is optically amplified at a pre-optical amplifier 73, an optical component parallel to the polarizing direction which is received by a CCD 27a and an optical component perpendicular to the polarizing direction which is received by a CCD 27b respectively through a beam splitter 23, are then stored in first to sixth frame memories 36a-36f of a processor 4, are inputted in an image processing circuit 37, and are addition-processed, so that a monitor 5 displays a non-polarized image, while being substruction-processed so that the polarized image suitable for diagnosing surface properties of the subject can be displayed.
