LUBRICATING OIL AND LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crankcase lubricating oil composition compatible with fluoroelastomeric engine seal materials and meeting requirements for copper corrosion property.

SOLUTION: The lubricating oil composition contains a tetra-alkylated phenylenediamine compound useful as an ashless TBN source, i.e. an N,N'-tetra-aliphatic hydrocarbyl phenylenediamine having one to three hydrocarbyl groups (e.g. alkyl groups) branched at an α-carbon atom and having 3-12 carbon atoms and one to three hydrocarbyl groups (e.g. alkyl groups) branched at a β-carbon atom and having 4-12 carbon atoms.
