PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the brightness, contrast ratio and color purity of a liquid crystal display surface. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display element 1 employs a structure configured such that the surface area of wall surfaces installed at predetermined intervals in liquid crystal panels of an upper layer positioned closest to an incidence side of light is larger than the surface area of wall surfaces installed at predetermined intervals in liquid crystal panels of a lower layer positioned below the liquid crystal panels of the upper layer. For example, the liquid crystal display element 1 has a structure configured such that the surface area (for example, (A)) of wall surfaces installed in liquid crystal panels of (blue) positioned closest to the incidence side of light is larger than the surface area (for example, (B)) of wall surfaces installed in liquid crystal panels of G (green) and R (red).
