PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for coating a building material so as not to damage the appearance of the building material. SOLUTION: A joining piece is provided to one end part of a base material in a projected state and the receiving joining piece 3 arranged on the back side of the joining piece of another base material 1 in a state that the adjacent base materials 1 and 1 are mutually connected is provided to the other end part of the base material 1. After a receiving layer 30 is formed to the base material 1, ink jet coating is applied to the surface of the receiving layer 30. After the edge face 23 of the base material 1 almost vertical to the receiving joining piece 3 is coated with a color approximate to the color applied by ink jet coating, the receiving layer 30 with a concealing ratio of 70-80% is formed. Even in a case that the unnecessary part 30a of the receiving layer 30 is formed to the edge face 23 of the base material 1, the coloration of the edge face 23 of the base material 1 is developed through the unnecessary part 30a of the receiving layer 30.
