PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction stir welding method for Mg and an Mg alloy, particularly, to provide an advantageous method for welding Mg and the Mg alloy having fine crystal grains. SOLUTION: In the friction stir welding method for Mg and the Mg alloy, friction stir welding is performed using a tool for friction stir welding in which a shoulder diameter/a probe diameter is≥4. Particularly, in the case Mg and the Mg alloy having the average crystal grain size of≤10μm is used as the material to be welded, joint efficiency is made high compared with the conventional welding method.
