1,118,618. Master cylinders; indicators. BENDIX CORP. 16 Sept., 1965 [23 Sept., 1964 (2)], No. 39791/65. Headings F2E and F2F. A brake master cylinder consists of a body 10 to which a plastic reservoir 34 is secured by means of a flexible flange portion 32 which is inserted into an opening formed by a flange 30 on the body, the interior of the flange 30 being provided with a sawtooth formation 35 providing grooves 36 into which the material of the flange is pressed by an insert acting radially outwardly on the flange 32. As shown, the insert 40 is in the form of a tapered sleeve which is driven downwardly into the interior of flange portion 32, the interior of the sleeve providing communication via ports 28, 44 in the body 10 for the hydraulic fluid. Alternatively (Fig. 3, not shown) the insert may be a helical spring (100) which is normally of larger external diameter than the internal diameter of the flange portion (32a) of the reservoir. In a further embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) a similar arrangement to that of Fig. 3 is used, but the flange portion (32b) is eccentric to the reservoir axis and a rib (106) on the reservoir engages a slot (108) in the body (10) to prevent relative rotation between the reservoir and body. |
