A positive-working light-sensitive material comprises a support coated with a layer containing an acid-curable resin and either iodine or an alkali metal iodide. This material may be imagewise exposed, heated to between 60‹ and 160‹C., removing the exposed areas with a solvent and further heating to cure the remaining areas and produce a printing plate. Specified acid-curable resins are the condensates of aldehydes or ketones with urea, melamine or phenols. The lightsensitive layer may also contain a further resin such as a styrene-modified alkyd resin, polyvinyl alcohol or after chlorinated polyvinyl chloride and a sensitizer such as benzophenone, benzoin, benzil, pyrene, perylene, anthracene, N-alkyl carbazoles and pyrene-formaldehyde condensate. Alternatively, the support may be coated with two layers, one solution containing the acid-curable resin and the other solution containing iodine in a polymeric binder, the second solution penetrating the first by diffusion. |
