RETARDATION FILM AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE HAVING THE SAME

PURPOSE: A phase difference film which is particularly useful in a VA mode liquid crystal display device is provided to increase the viewing angle characteristic of the VA mode liquid crystal display device by comparing with a phase difference film. CONSTITUTION: An upper phase difference film(30a) is attached to polarizer in an image display direction. A lower phase interference film(30b) is attached to the polarizer in a backlight direction. A phase difference of the lower phase difference film is 550nm. The phase difference ratio of R(400nm)/R(550nm) is 0.75~0.95 in 550nm wavelength. The phase difference ratio of R(400nm)/R(550nm) is 1.05~1.2 in 400nm wavelength. The lower phase difference ratio of R(400nm)/R(550nm) is 0.9~0.95.
