<p>The coupling apparatus includes a gear shaft (30), including a sun gear (38) at one shaft end (34) for connecting to a reduction gear box. The sun gear (38) drives a planetary gear train (20) inside the gearbox. The coupling apparatus has outer splines (42) on the gear shaft other end (36) that mesh with inner splines (64) of a ring gear (58) connected to a coupling flange member (54) by bolts (60) and nuts (62). The flange member (54) transmits high torque from a high speed turbine shaft (14) to the gear shaft (30) through the intermeshed splines. The teeth of the inner (64) and outer splines (42) are kept lubricated from a stationary spray source (74) on the turbine side via an oil catcher (72) mounted on the flange member (54) opposed to the ring gear (58). The flow of lubricating oil during operation is from the oil catcher (72), through holes (82) in the flange member (54), and to the intermeshed splines (42,64). Both oil catcher (72) and ring gear (58) are centered by a rim (94) positioned on the flange member (54).</p> |
