PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phthalocyanine compound that is soluble in a 6-15C aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent such as hexane or the like and is useful in applications to which conventional phthalocyanine compounds cannot be applied. SOLUTION: The phthalocyanine compound is represented by formula (1) äwherein the substituent groups at theα-position are each independently a halogen atom, NHR<SP>1</SP>or OR<SP>2</SP>(wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a 6-20C alkyl group and R<SP>2</SP>is a phenyl group bearing at least one 1-8C alkyl group); the substituent groups at theβ-position are each independently NHR<SP>3</SP>, SR<SP>4</SP>or OR<SP>5</SP>(wherein R<SP>3</SP>is a 6-20C alkyl group; R<SP>4</SP>is a 4-20C alkyl group or a phenyl group bearing at least one 1-8C alkyl group; and R<SP>5</SP>is a 4-20C alkyl group, or a phenyl group bearing at least one 1-8C alkyl group or halogen atom); a plurality of R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>5</SP>are the same or different; and the central atom is a nonmetal atom, a metal, a metal oxide or a metal halide}.
