PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the likelihood of spurious retransmissions from a transmitting entity caused by a second negative acknowledgement (NAK) from a receiving entity when a retransmission process has already been initiated. SOLUTION: In a communication system to selectively delay transmitting a second NAK after an initial NAK has already been sent requesting retransmission of a corrupted packet, a receiving entity initiates a NAK prohibit timer associated with a specific NAK 631.
