<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner which operates with high efficiency and high capacity without causing intermittent operations by using a permanent magnet motor whose magnetic flux is variable in several stages. <P>SOLUTION: The air conditioner 100 comprises: a sealed compressor 1 having the permanent magnet motor 16 whose magnetic flux is variable, an indoor heat exchanger 3, an expanding device 4, an outdoor heat exchanger 5, a room temperature detector 7, an outside air temperature detector 8, and a controller 9.
