A reciprocating compressor has opposed cylinders (not shown) mounted on a crank-case 1 and pistons reciprocated in the cylinders by rods 6, 7 fixed to opposite ends of a crosshead 5, the crosshead being reciprocated in crank-case guides (8), 9 and 23 by a connecting rod 15 positioned within the crosshead and connected to a transverse crankshaft 4. The crosshead 5 is formed by two similar structures 5<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>11</SP> secured together by bolts 12. Each structure has a pair of vertically extending sides provided with slots 17 for the crank-shaft 4 and spaced apart by rigid cross-members 13, 14 situated at the ends. The connecting rod 15 moves between the crosshead sides and is journalled on a pin 19 gripped between opposed semi-circular cutouts 18 in the structures 5<SP>1</SP> , 5<SP>11</SP> . |
