PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon material suitable as a negative-electrode material for a lithium-ion secondary battery, having high lithium storage and emission capacity and hardly damaged even when continuous charging/discharging is carried out, and to provide an electrode material and a negative-electrode material for a lithium-ion secondary battery, by using the carbon material.

SOLUTION: The carbon material contains metal-encapsulating hollow carbon particles, which have a void inside and contain a metal that can be alloyed with lithium.
