Deuterated methylene dichloride is produced by refluxing methylene chloride with deuterium oxide, an at least partially deuterated compound selected from dimethyl sulphoxide, hexamethylphosphoric triamide, 1-methyl-2- pyrrolidone, tetramethyl-urea, pyridine and tetramethylene sulphone, or an alkali metal deuteroxide, or a combination thereof, the reaction being carried out in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide, alkoxide or hydride if no alkali metal deuteroxide is present. |
