PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate a region within an image frame into a foreground region and a background region. SOLUTION: A method for selecting a training example from a frame including elements includes the steps for: creating a model for respective positions of the frame from a set of frames; receiving from a user a selection of elements that are certain to belong to one of a plurality of kinds; determining a classification for elements excluded from the selection based on features of the elements excluded from the selection and the model; and selecting at least elements with a low likelihood of accurate classification as training examples.
