PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical communication system which provides low consumption power of an ONU (Optical Network Unit) even when mixing and transmitting a streaming data frame and a non-streaming data frame in a downward signal. SOLUTION: In the optical communication system, an OLT (Optical Line Terminal) is provided with a frame discrimination means which classifies frames into the streaming data frames and the non-streaming data frames and a downward signal transmission means which arranges the streaming data frames to a first section to be continuous and non-streaming data frames to a second section, and then transmits them to ONU3<SB>1</SB>to 3<SB>n</SB>. The ONU3<SB>1</SB>to 3<SB>n</SB>shift to a sleep state at the time zone in which a streaming data frame of a different kind from that of streaming data frame requested for viewing and listening is transmitted.
