PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive oil strainer improving the oil filtration efficiency of a filter section and also suppressing an increase in weight of the oil strainer and enlargement thereof. SOLUTION: An inlet port 5 and an insertion opening 11 are opened in the upstream side of a long tubular strainer body 3, and a discharge port 7 is opened in the downstream side thereof. A filter unit 9 includes: a closing portion 13 closing the insertion opening 11, the filter section 19 having an opening 15 formed in a downstream end; and a platelike support section 21 provided around the outer peripheral surface of the downstream end of the filter section 19 and supported by the inner peripheral surface of the strainer body 3. The upstream side of the filter unit 9 is supported by the closing section 13 and the downstream side thereof is supported by the support section 21. The downstream end of an external flow passage D formed between the outer peripheral surface of the filter section 19 and the inner peripheral surface of the strainer body 3 is substantially fluid-tightly closed by inserting and fitting the support section 21 into the strainer body 3.
