PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new compound useful as an imaging component of a near infrared fluorescent imaging agent. SOLUTION: There is provided a compound represented by formula (I) [wherein, X is a sulfonic acid group; R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a substituent; R<SP>3</SP>to R<SP>6</SP>are each an alkyl group which may have one or more substituents; R<SP>7</SP>and R<SP>8</SP>are each an alkyl group which may have one or more substituents; L<SP>1</SP>to L<SP>3</SP>are each a methine group which may have one or more substituents; at least one of L<SP>1</SP>to L<SP>3</SP>is methine group having a more bulky substituent than the ethyl group; (r) is an integer of 0 to 3; when (r) is 2 or more, a plurality of L<SP>2</SP>groups and a plurality of L<SP>3</SP>groups are each identical or different; (M) is H, an alkali metal, or the like; (m) and (n) are each independently an integer of 0 to 3; at least one of the substituents is sulfonic acid group or a group containing a sulfonic acid group], or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
