A passive drive liquid crystal display includes a first substrate (10), a second substrate (11) facing the first substrate (10) and a liquid crystal layer (18) interposed therebetween, a color filter film (14) located on the second substrate (11), a second transparent conductive layer (25) located on the color filter film (14), a first transparent conductive layer (15) located on the first substrate (10). The first transparent conductive layer (15) and the second transparent conductive layer (25) each includes at least one type of pattern electrode corresponding to each other. The color filter film (14) comprises a red filter, a green filter and a blue filter arrayed periodically and repeatedly. The pattern electrode of the first transparent conductive layer (15) or the second transparent conductive layer (25) comprises subelectrodes (41) arrayed periodically, and the subelectrodes (41) correspond to at least one of the red filter, the green filter and the blue filter. The liquid crystal display device displays plurality of color areas with fixed color corresponding to at least one pattern electrode under a driving voltage applied to the pattern electrode.
