1411929 Polyguanidine foams BAYER AG 10 April 1974 [11 April 1973] 16004/74 Heading C3C A polyguanidine synthetic resin foam is claimed. The foam is made by reacting a polycarbodiimide foam with one or more liquid or gaseous amines, liquid or gaseous ammonia or hydrazine. In Examples A-C polycarbodiimide foams are made by polymerizing 4,41-diphenylmethane-diisocyanate or tolylene diisocyanate in the presence of glycerol, 1-methyl-1-oxophospholine, a silicone, tris-(dimethylaminopropyl) s - hexahydrotriazine and/or trichloroethyl phosphate and the foam may be compressed, and in Examples 1-7 the carbodiimide foams are treated with N,N<SP>1</SP>-dimethyl-ethylenediamine, n-butylamine, ethylenediamine, aq. ammonia or aniline to form polyguanidine foams. The polycarbodiimide may also contain isocyanurate groups and the polyguanidine may also contain unconverted carbodiimide groups. The polyguanidine foams may be used as insulating materials or absorbents for acids, e.g. hydrochloric acid when a polyguanidine-hydrochloride foam is produced.
