<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent resolution feeling emphasis processing from being doubled, and excessive resolution feeling emphasis processing from being performed when both of a video recording and playback device and an image display device have resolution feeling emphasis processing function in an emphasis processing circuit. <P>SOLUTION: When the video recording and playback device 1 is connected to the image display device 3, a control circuit 16 is connected to a control circuit 34, whether a signal processing means 32 of the image display device 3 has the resolution feeling emphasis processing function is detected, and when the signal processing means 32 has the resolution feeling emphasis processing function, a control is made so that the resolution feeling emphasis processing is not performed in a signal processing means 15.
